When I visited the industrial hamlet on the river Sheaf in Sheffield in 2007 I learned that the water from the river powered the machinery to make steel. The women were mainly involved in domestic work and to make a parallel I walked to the river Sheaf and washed linen there. I later made a video of the sheet in the river.

In 2008 I repeated this work in the river Nevern at Newport Pembs using a traditional basket to carry the washing.
